New addition to Balenciaga family

The "Motorcycle", the "Twiggy", the "Brief", are all Balenciaga bags that we have become familiar with and accustomed to. Despite the fashion industry being incredibly unforgiving, these "It" bags have survived, and weathered the seasons - "It" bags survive for a few seasons, but these bags have stood the test of time, achieving a somewhat cult status in the fashion world. And now, the latest addition to this ever-expanding cult brand's collection is the new "Pom Pon" bag.

Pictured above is the Arena Giant Covered Pom Pon bag in white, with white hardware and studded details. The white on white hardware definitely gives the bag a minimalist appeal. If you want something that says 'understated chic' then this would be it. Made of wrinkled distressed lambskin with drawstring closure, it comes with a removable shoulder strap. Love It or Hate It: Be and D Chatterley Satchel

This week's pick on our Love It or Hate It column is the Be and D Chatterley Satchel - a black patent leather satchel with lavender patent leather ruffle detail. The bag also comes with stud details which goes down the centre of the ruffles, side pleating, stud detail at the sides, gun metal silver hardware, a detachable chain with patent leather woven through and the list goes on.

By now, you should be able to tell that there's too much going on in the bag. Too many details. From what I've noticed in the past, too much detail can be disasterous. You might not agree with me. Anyhow, the bag is lined in twill and features an inside zippered pocket for storing your things.

Luella Anita Patent Hobo

Feel that Punk-Rock vibe with this 'Anita' Patent Hobo, from Brit Designer, Luella Bartley's Fall/Winter Collection. Made from crackled patent leather with studded details and chain link shoulder straps with bow detail, this bag definitely captures that slightly 'naughty' dominatrix-ish look (because of the Shiny Black Patent Leather), but without looking overtly kinky nor skanky. So I guess you could say it's naughty but with a touch of class. Lol. Bagaholic Babe isn't usually a fan of the Punk-Rock Chic designs, but I must say I quite fancy this bag. Perhaps the bow on the chain link strap gives the bag a slightly more innocent, a certain 'naughty but nice' feel. Alice Temperley Studded Evening Bag

I am sooo in love with this Studded Evening Bag by Alice Temperley! Temperley's RTW stuff are very Romantic and Vintage-looking, so I couldn't believe that she actually came up with this jewel that looks a little edgy and Rock 'n' Roll! (Oh for those of you who aren't familiar with this designer/brand, Alice Temperley is a Brit designer). I simply adore the bright Fuschia suede and the oversized studs, I love! It's not often that you see an Evening bag this interesting. Oh yes, this is from Temperley's Fall/Winter 2007 collection. Yep, this F/W season, it's all about Bright Eye-Popping Colours!



Made of fuschia Suede, and leather panels with studded details, this bag comes with a detachable chain strap so you can carry it as a clutch or sling over the shoulder. Amidst the sea of conventional and predictable Evening Bags and miniaudieres, this will definitely get you noticed... Plus, it'd be a great conversation starter! Celine Tiger Boogie

Celine's 'It' Bag, the 'Boogie' Bag, that has been seen on celebs' arms (such as Sarah Jessica Parker, Madonna, Gwyneth Paltrow, etc) has been given a facelift! Since its launch, the Boogie has been available various versions: Studded, Suede, Classic Calfskin, Logo Denim, Zippered, etc. However, I do believe that it's the first time the Boogie is seen in Animal Prints, and this season, it's the Tiger Print Hair Calf with Leather trims and studded details. So if you're an Animal Print fan, I'm sure you'll adore this bag for tiger prints on bags ain't that common compared to the Leopard, Cheetah and Zebra prints! Limited Edition LV Multicolore Marilyn

Once again, the House of Vuitton has stumped us with another Limited Edition number. In Monogram Multicolore Canvas, the 'Marilyn' bag is inspired by none other than Hollywood Glamour Girl, Marilyn Monroe.



Apart from its natural cowhide leather trimming, you have a choice of 6 colours that have been selected from the 33 colours of the Multicolore Canvas Fuschia, Violet, Rose and Indigo on White Multicolore Canvas; and on Black Multicolore Canvas, you can choose between Lilac and Anis. Collectors' will also be pleased to know that, as showcased at Vuitton's Pre-Fall Collection in Hong Kong in March, there was a Monogram Multicolore Trunk filled with 33 Marilyn Exotic Leather trims (think Croc Skin) on Multicolore Canvas. Presenting: New Collections -- Louis Vuitton Polka Dots Navy

Today's Featurette is the Polka Dots Navy Line from Louis Vuitton's 'Show Spring 2007' Collection.

Like all the bags from Vuitton's 'Show Spring 2007' Collection, the Polka Dots NavyLine also has creased-finished brass hardware. The bags from this line utitlises linen and stonewashed monogrammed canvas with stripes and are trimmed with hand-creased grained leather for a buffed and more rugged look. Instead of colourful Polka Dots like the one we saw in the Polka Dots Fleurs line, the Polka Dots NavyLine is embellished with Black hand-riveted Polka dots. Like all the other Polka Dots Collections (Polka Dots Panema and Polka Dots Fleurs from Spring 2007), this collection is stamped with Louis Vuitton's 'Trunks and Bags' Logo.

I suppose Louis Vuitton's embracing 'studded rivets' more punkish look and assimilating it into the brand's classic style. The reason for my saying this is due to the fact that quite a number of the bags from Vuitton's Spring/Summer 2007 Collection have a similar studded look with the quilted topstitched squares embellished with rivets and the logo plaque. If you are an LV fan, or if you have been following this blog regularly, you would know that the 'Rivets Pochette', a new addition to LV's signature Monogram Canvas line sports this same look.

Yup, Bagaholic Babe isn't a fan of Black bags because although it's versatile in the sense that it goes well with everything in one's entire wardrobe, but let's just say I need my dose of colour. Well yes, I know that 'Bisque' (Cream) is less of a colour than Black, but that coupled with the Gold hardware just does me in! Bottega Veneta's Artistic/Creative Director, Tomas Maier looks as if he's heading in a different direction this Fall/Winter 2007. The brand, reknowned for its woven leather bags, seem to be heading into uncharted waters. This Fall/Winter 2007, we see less of the usual leather woven bags as this season, it seems to be all about Exotic skins like Python, Alligator and Ostrich. Also unusual for the brand is its completely leather (not woven at all!) bags and some with studded details! Could Exotics and Leather Bags with Details be Bottega Veneta's 'New Wave' That, my fellow BagAddicts, we shall have to wait and and see, won't we? *winks* ;)

Whether when you're walking to your car alone in a dark carpark, or arming yourself should snatch theft occur, The Mace Bag Charm is a perfect self-defense weapon (besides Pepper spray of course). Just hold it in your palm and you have yourself armed! Since the studs and spikes on the Nappa leather body is made of metal, you can actually poke someone's eyes out with them. If you wanna get this, you gotta be patient though, for it isn't available yet. The Small Drawstring Hobo, is in Bagaholic Babe's opinion, THE best bag from the Mulberry for Giles Deacon Collection so far. I mentioned in my earlier post that this collection is a tad too dominatrix-looking for me, but I guess if I had to choose, I'd probably pick this one. Made of White Patent leather (again, white is THE colour for Spring-Summer 2007), stud buckle closure and gold hardware and tassel details, it retails for £795, and will be available soon via the Mulberry Website .

This 'Balloon' Bag by Marni is Dubbed as "the coolest carryall for Spring" by Net-a-Porter. The 'Balloon' Bag is from Marni's Spring-Summer 2007 Collection and comes in 3 sizes - small, medium (shown) and large. All 3 sizes come with a detachable shoulder strap so you can sling it across your body if you're not one who likes toting your bag around in your arm.

Both the Large and Medium 'Balloon' Bags are Made of varnished leather (treated with a glazing process) to give it the same shine and sheen as Patent leather. All the bags are accented with leather trims. The large comes in 2 colours - Fire and Cigar (Red) and Shell and Cigar (Creamy White) and retails for £ 759, while the Medium 'Balloon' bags come in 3 colours - Inox and Cigar, Onyx and Wood ( both shown above), and Saffron and Wood (Banana Yellow) for £ 620.00. The small only comes in one colour - musk and wood (Beige/Light Brown) and retails £ 595. However, instead of varnished leather, the small Balloon bag is made of muslin.

Personally, I'd go for the medium in Inox and Cigar because it's great for denim. The black is alright too, but a little too lustrous for me, even though Spring is the season for all things Patent, Metallic and White. The Balloon Bags by Marni are available via Marni Online

Michael Kors Kilt Bag

The reason behind why this is called a Kilt bag is a no brainer, really, because it looks similar to the little waistband bags that Scotsmen (and women) wear when they adorn their kilts. The only difference between the real kilt bag and this Michael Kors version of it is the chunky gold hardware and studs. Oh, and the chunky gold chain shoulder strap of course (the original kilt bags were more like pouches that was attached to a leather belt and worn around the waist. Mulberry for Giles Deacon Collection

One of the hottest accessories collaborations of the season, is Mulberry for Giles Deacon (a groovy young designer). Mulberry for Giles is a 10 piece collection, featuring distinctive designs...not the usual functional designs that Mulberry is known for. How different? Mulberry steps out of their comfort zone, using embellishments for this collection - something they have never done before. I'm pretty good at identifying the brand of the bags by just looking at it, but for this one, I was surprised that it was a Mulberry creation. There is an abundance of chunky zips and Gold and silver studding and hardware accent the Patent Leather and Washed Lambskin bags of this collection - a first for the brand that is usually known for its simplicity and functional, minimalist looks when it comes to design. As Stuart Vevers, creative director of Mulberry says" The collaboration was so good as it allowed us to both move outside our comfort zone".

However, it's A little too much of a bad-ass girl, wild child, dominatrix and S&M fusion for Bagaholic Babe though.
