Stylish Fendi Bag

This large Zucca baguette is a combination of extra-large signature FF zucca with its classic zucca print, with an adjustable chain link shoulder strap with leather piece that rests comfortably on your shoulder. (Hey, we all know that chain link straps tend to dig into our skin, though not many will want to admit this, especially ardent fans of Chanel bags).

The Verdict: At first glance, I thought this was a rather mature-looking bag and dismissed it. When I popped into the Fendi boutique and saw this bag, I didn't think much of it either ... until curiosity got the better of me and I decided to sling it on my shoulder. And that's when I changed my mind about the bag. In fact, the bag proved to be rather expensive and classy-looking - in short, it immediately transforms one into a fashionista. It just proves that some things look better when they've been tried on. ;)

Splurge of the Week!

One of the few Leiber pieces I really like is the Nymph and we're featuring it on our Splurge this week. A curved rectangle clutch covered in multicolor Austrian crystals, the focal point lies in the beautiful pink flower - accompanied by a cute 3D dragonfly. As with most other Leiber clutches, the Nymph opens to an interior "Leiber" logo plate with a push lock closure.

The Verdict: Followers of our blog would already know by now that Prada is one of Bagaholic Babe's favourite brands. Bagaholic Babe is sitting on the fence with this collection. Let's start with what Bagaholic Babe dislikes about the collection. Firstly, I'm not really a fan of huge gem embellishments on my stuff, be they clothing, shoes or bags. Although there may be some exceptions, this collection doesn't really have me raving. Secondly, the oversized gem detailing on bags has been done before --> if you remember, Marc Jacobs did oversized gem encrusted bags about 2 years or so ago for his runway collection. If you can't remember this, then the ad campaigns featuring Dakota Fanning, should remind you of this.

Now, on with what I Like about this collection. I love the wristlet and the tote in fuschia! So girly, so me. =)

Newsflash: Louis Vuitton Limited Edition Damier 'Neverfull' Bag

Dear Bag Addicts,

As you probably already know, there are a few Limited Editions of the 'Neverfull' bag. First, there was the Limited Edition Murakami Neverfull that was available only at the Museum of Contemporary Art (MoCA) in Los Angeles from Oct 2007 to Feb 2008, and the Limited Edition Neverfull in Crocodile Skin a few months ago. Now, there's a Limited Edition 'Neverfull' bag in Damier Canvas available, but only in Hawaii and Japan. However, those of you in other parts of the world, fret not! You too can get a Limited Edition Neverfull in Damier! Reliable sources have told us that a Limited Edition 'Neverfull' in Damier Azur will be released in early 2009. And yes, it will be available in Malaysia too! I don't know whether they're putting people on the waitlist over here already, but maybe you could enquire at a Louis Vuitton boutique and give it a shot if you're interested.

Bagging For Attention

A Thai designer makes unusual and beautiful bags from combining exotic skins with semi-precious stones. But it's all just a hobby to him.

PIROON Wacharamontri is an unlikely bag designer, considering his day job. A lawyer by training and profession, he makes handbags as a hobby.

But his bags, which are made of exotic skins and lambskin and embellished with semi-precious stones, have become so popular, his hobby might just become a full-time career!To date, his bags have been sold in Hong Kong, Singapore, Japan and the United States, with high-end stores like Neiman Marcus and Lane Crawford carrying his designs. The latest market is Malaysia with his creations being sold at the new Tang's at Pavilion in Kuala Lumpur.

For now, however, the boyish Piroon, 34, is content to design the bags that do not even carry his name. In KL, they are being sold under the label, Bagatelle.

Piroon started making bags five years ago. His interest was sparked by his love for semi-precious stones. The leather was more like a canvas for him to play with the gems.

"It started when a friend in Hong Kong, who owns a gallery that sells jewellery, asked me to design some pieces. He said why not think up something different, so I ended up putting precious stones on bags. So the concept is more like semi-precious stones on good leather," he says during an interview in Bangkok.

"I have two lines, Seasonal and Classic. The Seasonal's first batch has only 15 bags. If they sell well, I'll make 30. The maximum number for each style is 50, and only two for each country.

However for my Classic line, I won't make more than 30 pieces. I also custom make pieces for my clients in Bangkok who tell me what they want."

Piroon gets his ideas from his travels; this season he was inspired by Spain, so the main colours are red and green.

His collections initially comprised clutch bags because he thinks they are sexy.

"But now I have moved to other bags. This Fall/Winter I'm using onyx, pearls, smoky quartz, tiger eyes and green jade. For Spring 2008, I am looking at corals and turquoise. Gold is the colour this year but silver is also popular, so I have chosen pewter. I like exotic skins, and I like amethysts and smoky quartz."

Piroon doesn't seem concerned with making very practical bags as most designs offer little room to hold things and yet are rather heavy. But there's no mistaking their wow factor. Carry one and you can expect attention. A Bagatelle is so well embellished, it could be the only accessory you need for the evening.

Not surprisingly, Piroon says his customers are mainly in their 30s and older, as he believes you need to attain a certain level of sophistication to appreciate his bags.

"I don't like the word 'fashion', I prefer 'style'. Why don't you have your own style, be different. I call my bags jewellery bags."

What's interesting about these bags is that the stones are so beautiful that you feel like taking them off the bags and wearing them as jewellery. In fact, Piroon, says he has designed handbags where you can take the "handle" off and wear it as a necklace!

Although his bags are a hobby, Piroon does have his eye on expanding further: "I'm looking forward to distributing the bags in more countries, but in limited pieces. I don't want everyone carrying the same bag. I'd also like to design a home collection, I used to design candles with semi precious stones. Now I'm looking at the business aspect, so one thing I'd like to see is my bags being sold all over the world!"

Vivienne Westwood Patent Tote

Bagaholic Babe never really fancied Vivienne Westwood's bags, especially her signature tartan ones with graffiti-like writing on them, which imho, kinda looks like what Alexander McQueen might do, in terms of clothing and RTW. Remember his tartan ball gown he did for Sarah Jessica Parker some years back? Anyway, I digress. Let's go back to today's featured bag, shall we? Although I was never really a Westwood fan, there's something about the character of this bag that I really like... and such an unusual shape for Westwood too! (Her bags are usually puffy and fat-ish with wide bases, if you catch my drift). Made of patent leather with the Westwood orb logo in gold, it looks rather classy. Don't be deceived by the size of the pic above though, it's actually a small tote. As for the actual measurements, I'm sorry but I couldn't find it. Hot off the Runway!! -- Prada Satin Rose Clutch

For Fall/Winter this year, Prada's bags and accessories had bow themes. Come Spring/Summer 2008, whether it's nylon, leather or satin, or ready-to-wear, Prada's theme seems to be roses, flowers and rosette details. If you haven't already got a nice looking clutch to party in for New Years, you can get this new Satin Rose Clutch from Prada's S/S '08 Collection, as seen on the runways during the Fashion Week Spring/Summer shows.



This hot-off-the-runway clutch is available in either natural (dark gold, shown) or black satin with rosette details and pleated front. Bagaholic Babe loves it in this natural colour because of the contrasting and interesting colour combinations, whereas the black version of this clutch is in solid black, including the Rosettes. The Lancel Collection

If you've yet to hear of the brand Lancel, let me introduce you this Parisian accessory brand that offers lots and lots of beautiful pieces.

The birth of this brand name came about in the 1870's. The family business started off producing pipes and smoking accessories moving on to capitalise on the economic boom of the Second Empire in 1883 - producing its first leather goods atelier in Paris. One of the very first bags ever produced included the 'Black Silk' handbag made in the 1900s.



In 1987, the 'Elsa Bucket Bag' was created - making the bag the signature item by Lancel with a sale of over 3 million pieces.

Coming such a long way, Lancel celebrated its 130th anniversary last year with the opening of its store at the most beautiful avenue in the world - Champs-Elysées.




This prestigious new boutique tells the story of a brand, which - 130 years later - continues to influence the fashion of its time. Innovation, quality and creation - the inspiration that still remains to date.

Marc by Marc Jacobs 'Miss Marc' Oversized Tote

For seasons past, the caricature seen on Marc by Marc Jacobs bags was the very scary looking voodoo doll-like 'Katie'. For this Fall/Winter season, the new caricature that adorns Marc by Marc Jacobs bags is the very cutesy-looking 'Miss Marc'. As this bag is from the Fall/Winter Collection, 'Miss Marc' sports a snowflake shirt. I must say that I've seen the actual bag, and the pictures below don't do the bag much justice at all because it's so much cuter than the photos foretell.

Made of canvas and fastened with a magnetic snap closure, this oversized polkadotted tote has bow-detailed knotted handles that add to the bag's already cutesy look. You'll be glad to know that this bag can be worn in 3 ways! Apart from the square tote above, the sides of the bag can be folded in so that you have a more triangular sorta look that would resemble the shape of Fendi's Bag De Jour. In addition to that, this bag is also reversible. When reversed, the outer side will sport Marc by Marc Jacobs signature logo print (as above). Hm, this bag may seem like a overly huge day bag, but it looks good on the shoulder! Plus, it's great for travelling! Julie Verhoeven for Mulberry

Brit brand Mulberry seems to be doing a lot of collaborations these days. Last year, the brand collaborated with Brit designer, Giles Deacon for the 'Giles for Mulberry' Collection. This Fall/Winter Season, Mulberry has collaborated with an Artist, Julie Verhoeven (who collabrated with Louis Vuitton in 2003) to create this Special Artist Edition 'Julie Verhoeven for Mulberry Bag'. Only made in limited quantities, this bag can be considered as a Limited Edition.

Though a little Chanel-esque in more ways than one, (in terms of the quilted look and the chain shoulder strap) the artist illustrated appliqué by Verhoeven reminds me a little of Chanel's fun, funky and colourful Cruise Collections of seasons' past. A little Chanel-esque it may be, but Bagaholic Babe still adores this bag nonetheless. It's very me. Lol. Bargain(s) of the Week!

Ever since Bagaholic Babe came across designer Jordi Labanda's illustrations, I was hooked!. Jordi Labanda is a Spanish Designer who used to do illustrations for Vogue, Elle, Cosmopolitan, etc and the other High Fashion magazines. He soon ventured into Ready-to-Wear, Stationery and Accessories. However, he's still a designer not many people have heard of, and since I love his stuff so much, I thought of sharing his amazing Bags with you, my fellow BagAddicts.
