"Born To Be Wild" or "Out of Africa" best describes MJ's collection for S/S 09. Not only do we see LOTS of exotic prints and animal prints, but also wildly mismatched colours!! Besides that, MJ's underlying philosophies in creating this collection, in Bagaholic Babe's opinion, are contrast, textures, and colours. The key shape of the season also seems to be the messenger as well as smaller-sized shoulder slung bags.


Get ready as Marc Jacobs has unleashes the Exotic kingdom unto us, often with a few of them exploding onto just a SINGLE bag!! The key detail of his collection seems to be padlocks and tassles.





I like the this one though... love the touch of red! 

Here, he adds on to his current collection of Quilted bags, are some in messenger style, with padlock and exotic (lizard) skin detailing. A new element to the quilted range would be the ones with sequin details












The Verdict: Well, in Bagaholic Babe's opinion, MJ is trying to do too much with this collection! There really isn't a thread that binds the collection together as a WHOLE.

The quilted bags are more classic looking, whilst the ones with sequin details and rope straps may add a touch of glam and sparkle to your outfit.

The multi-flapped bags with contrasted textures and exotic skins with exotic skinned tassels all in one just prove to be too much for my liking! I mean, pony hair + lizard skin + python + suede + leather all in ONE bag?! It may be fine if it's in one colour, but all those details and textures PLUS contrasting colours and tassels all in ONE bag is just well, an eyesore. One really doesn't know where to look and what to focus on when you lay your eyes upon it because there is just TOO MUCH going on! However, one thing I do not doubt with all the exotic combinations is well.... the price tag, of course! Just using one type of exotic skin already costs a bomb... imagine the use of 3-4 AT ONCE..!

Love It or Hate It: Fendi Sequin and Wool Embellished Tote

This week's Love it or Hate It post features Fendi's Sequinned and Wool Embellished Tote from its Fall/Winter 2007 Collection.

I must admit that I was rather horrified when I saw this bag. I've always been and still am a total Fendi-holic, but this one is just unforgivable. The first thought that came to mind when I first laid my eyes upon it was that it looks like a hybrid between 2 types of birds - a cross between a turkey (represented by the scalloped bits in the middle) and a vulture (long woolly mop-like Afghan dog bits). Yes, those of you who regularly follow our blog might recall that I referred to one of the bags at Fendi's F/W '07 runway show at Fashion Week early this year as bearing a striking resemblance to holding a dead bird by the scruff of the neck. Well, the only difference between that one and this bag being featured today is that this one is a representation of not one but two dead birds...





However, there are some who have a very different opinion than mine. Net-a-Porter actually featured this bag in one of their Top 10 for Fall saying that it's "a statement bag with intricate, couture-like detailing. An essential for every Fendi lover." (emphasis added by Bagaholic Babe). Well I don't know if it's really couture-like detailing, but an essential for every Fendi lover?!?! *flabbergasted* Excuse me, I AM a Fendi lover but er, definitely very far from essential for me..

Priced at £3,309.36 and available via Net-a-Porter. Hm, honestly, I wouldn't even carry it if I was paid that price to carry it.

Presenting: Paris Fashion Week: Chanel Spring/Summer Collection 2008

From sequin-embellished bags to hard case Evening clutches in the shape of gemstones with crystal embellishments and details, the theme "Shiny, Shiny, Shiny!!" in Bagaholic Babe's opinion, is suitable for Chanel's S/S '08 Collection.


















Whilst other designers seem to be using a bright, bold and striking colour palette for their S/S '08 collections (Fendi, Marni, Christian Lacroix, etc), Chanel seems to have opted for a more monochromatic colour scheme. Perhaps it was due to Chanel's uncharacteristic use of bright colours for their Fall/Winter 2007 Collection which resulted in this seeming reversal of seasons? It's befitting to say (in Bagaholic Babe's opinion), that Chanel's S/S '08 Collection is more suited to the F/W '07 and vice versa. Makes the brand's F/W '07 Collection seem more fun. Hm, what do YOU think?

The Verdict: Chanel has always been associated with timelessness and elegance. That may be so, but come Spring/Summer 2008, this monochromatic collection will be lost amidst the sea of flourescent colours that the other uber-designers have opted for. C'mon it's Spring! Let's welcome sunshine, rainbows and yes, that means and injection of colour!

Yes, naturally, being a total Fendiholic, I just had to feature this. From the Fall/Winter 2007 Collection, this Fendi 'Forever Sequined Borsa' is in its signature Zucchiino-print fabric (small 'FF' logo) accented with clear sequins allover. I love the multicoloured metallic Orange/Pink/Blue/Gold calfskin leather trims, but I know I'd certainly prefer it if the bag came without the sequins. If you have been following my posts regularly, you'll know that yours truly is a total Fendi-holic! But this collection is downright dissapointing, and well, the dead birds have left me speechless. The only bags i like from this collection are the colourful box clutches and the last 'Colour Block' bag that gives off that Artsy Fartsy Mod vibe. Nice to still see colours in winter when everything gets dull and sombre. ;) LOVE LOVE LOVE the last bag! In fact, in Bagaholic Babe's opinion, the colourful box clutches and the last 2 bags above saved Fendi's collection this Fall/Winter 2007 and made the 'dead bird and dead turkey' bags seem...er... somewhat forgivable.
