Love It or Hate It: Prada Pizzo Satchel (Runway Collection)

I've always been a fan of Prada. But Bagaholic Babe knew, from their Fall/Winter 2008 showing at Milan Fashion Week earlier this year, that this coming season would NOT be one that I will be looking forward to. Why? Well, simply because everything from their F/W '08 is made of Lace. I've never been a fan of lace, not even on my clothes (plus the fact that I'm allergic to lace helps because my mum wouldn't have dared to put me in anything lacey when I was young due to the fear of me breaking out in a rash all over) simply because it looks well, rather erm...granny-ish, imho. I may be a total girly girl, but lace really isn't my thing. I thought the lace bags (mostly in black) were distasteful enough, but let's just say that what I saw at Prada's Milan Fashion Week show did not at all prepare me for THIS...



Yes, now that you've seen it, it's a Showstopper in every way isn't it? Pity it isn't for the right reasons. This my dear BagAddicts, is the new 'Pizzo S' satchel that is made of nappa leather with lace overaly and ruched details on its edges. Man, this may definitely be a bag that only Morticia Addams from the Addams Family would carry. My dear Miuccia, what exactly were you thinking? I guess for 2 years now, Prada's Fall/Winter stuff seem rather err....peculiar. Last year it was the fringed nappa tote that resembled an Afghan dog from afar, and this year, its THIS... or rather, the lace collection in general. I guess F/W aren't really inspiring times for the House of Prada as Spring/Summer collections are milestones better. Ah well, what can I say. Fashion has its ups and downs and not everyone has to agree. Beauty, after all, is in the eyes of the beholder...

New Prada Tessuto Gauffre Bow Tote

Bagaholic Babe has always been a fan of the Tessuto Gauffre range by Prada. If you're not exactly sure about what I'm talking about, it's the ruched range in nylon, that was launched in 2007, right after the nappa gauffre range. Because of its popularity, what was initially intended to be a seasonal collection has now become very much a part of Prada's classic collections that appear every season. The only difference? Remember Prada's waitlisted Nappa Gauffre Ruched Tote from last year? Yes, the 'It' Bag that was seen on the arms of virtually every A-Lister including Lindsay Lohan, Victoria Beckham and Madonna. And then there was the Tessuto Gauffre of Spring/Summer '07 that came in an array of cotton candy colours in Nylon. Hmm. though I must say that this Matelasse Tote in Medium reminds me of Prada's Tessuto Gauffre of S/S '07. Though if I had to choose between this and the Tessuto Gauffre, the Tessuto Gauffre wins hands down! BUt mind you, I'm not a fan of the Nappa Gauffre, just the Tessuto because of the wonderful fun colours in comes in!

It ain't often that we come across messenger bags nowadays. I wonder why designers don't favour this sorta style. True, messenger bags may not be as classy and as chic (imho I don't know why the Tod's messenger bag is sold out...it looks well... to put it bluntly, quite ugly..) but designers forget that Messenger bags are really convenient and practical. It looks great with jeans and the casual look, and the best part of all, it leaves both hands free for shopping and for lugging your purchases around! Spotted: Reese Witherspoon with Miu Miu Coffer Bag

On a day out shopping in Los Angeles with her daughter, Ava, Reese Witherspoon was spotted with Miu Miu's Coffer Bag in Cream. Because the Coffer Bag seems to be a hot favourite with Hollywood A-Listers and those in the celebrity circuit, this Miu Miu number seems to have reached 'It' Bag status. Other A-Listers who have been spotted with the 'Coffer' include Lindsay Lohan, the new face of the Miu Miu's 2007 Ad Campaign.

We all know that Nancy Gonzalez specialises in Croc and Alligator bags. But, I haven't seen a Ruched Alligator or Croc Tote, because as I can imagine, it must be pretty tough to achieve the Ruched look for such a tough exotic skin. And because of that, this, the Ruched Crocodile Satchel by Nancy Gonzalez get's picked as this week's Splurge of the Week! Very rarely do I favour Nancy Gonzalez's bags, because they look too structured for my liking, but this one looks so feminine and classy! The woven detail on the straps blends in well with the drawstring sides on the bag. Bagaholic Babe is loving the bag in Cream Caiman Fuscus Crocodile(shown). Looks like Prada's focus for this Fall/Winter is Clutches and Zippered bottoms on all the bags! Is Prada trying to make their bags more functional (ie expandable) with the zippered bottoms?
Err what Bagaholic Babe doesn't get is..... what's with the slip in hand pockets on the clutches?? Reminds me of the square clutch from Fendi's Spring/Summer 2007 Collection. (Yes, the very one i christened a CD case).. :P

And what's with that furry looking clutch? Looks like they killed a dog and used its fur for the bag.

The Verdict: I'm sorry, this collection does NOT get Bagaholic Babe's Vote!

Miu Eww!

What's up with Miu Miu anyway? It's just horrible to see so much ugly stuff on display! Take a look..

First up, we have the Nappa Leather Patchwork Tote that has double handles and ruching at the top. I don't know really. The first time I saw it, I thought it looked like those wooden chalets I stay in when I go on a beach holiday. I think the color had to play in it. It's horrible.

Secondly, we have the Oversized Tote - also in Nappa Leather - except that it's without the patchwork. Thank God it doesn't have the patchwork. Seriously, I think patchwork is not their department. Unfortunately, the color is SO WRONG and doesn't the ruching at the top remind you of those elastic hairbands you use when you want to keep your hair up when you're washing your face? Goodness gracious!

Another Nappa Leather piece. But this is a drawstring bag. Less bad, but not good!

Well, this one's a lil different. It's made of soft patent leather (I love patent leather but this one's SO WRONG). Would you agree if I said it looked quite like the Squichy from LV? If you've not seen the Squichy, take a look at it here. Anyway, back to the Miu Eww bag. It's a soft patent leather frame bag with HUGE, i repeat, HUGE braided handles which makes the bag disproportionate - at least I think so - no, I take that back.. I know so!

See what I mean? I wonder who buys stuff like this. They're all between $700 but less than $1,000 per piece! However, I'll do their brand justice and recommend one of their bags which I'd lug around..

Prada Resort Collection for Spring/Summer 2007

Remember the ruched Prada Nappa Gauffre that was seen on celebs' such as Victoria Beckham, Madonna and Hilary Duff? (see below for photos). Many of us couldn't get our hands on them as they were waitlisted for the longest time, and along with all waitlisted bags, they came along with a hefty price tag. For Malaysians out there, the Nappa Gauffre is still avaliable in the Prada boutique at KLCC. However, they range from RM$8000+-RM$10,000+. So there's still an opportunity to grab em!



Prada Fall Winter '06 Nappa Gauffre

And for those of you who, for whatever reasons couldn't get the Nappa Gauffre from the Prada Fall Winter '06 collection featured in the photo above, you can get a more affordable version from Prada's latest Resort and Cruise Spring-Summer '07 collection. It launches in the middle of December at the Prada KLCC boutique.

It's made from Prada's signature rip-proff tessuto nylon (thus only weighing a fraction compared to that of the Nappa Gauffre from Fall/Winter '06) and comes in bright and pretty candy colours such as Fire engine Red, Midnight Blue, Canary Yellow, Tangerine, Dark Green, Fuschia and White -- all with ruched tessuto nylon. However, As can be seen from the photo above, it comes with woven leather handles and trimmings, and comes with an adjustable long strap so that one can sling it over the shoulder or wear it messenger-style. Or, if you prefer, you can tote it around on your arm. What more could one ask for?! *winks*

It is available in 3 different sizes - small, medium and large.
The small is perfect for evening use or clubbing - For convenience, just attach the long adjustable leather strap and you can start dancing the night away!) It measures 8 inches in length and 1.5inches in depth.
