Presenting: Fashion Week: Louis Vuitton S/S '08

Presenting: Paris Fashion Week: Louis Vuitton's Spring/Summer 2008 Collection

Yet again, Louis Vuitton is collaborating with an artist. For the Spring/Summer 2008 season, the House of Vuitton and Marc Jacobs collaborated with artist Richard Price, incorporating his spraypainted graffitti and texts into the handbag collection. As fashionistas might remember, this isn't the first time that Louis Vuitton is using graffiti motifs for their bags. In the late 1990s Takashi Murakami utilised graffiti-esque fonts to splash the Louis Vuitton name in bold on bags. This time around, instead of splashing the Louis Vuitton name in bold, Richard Price uses fashion capitals of the world (London, Paris, etc) together with the LV monogram. The effect created resembles a multilayered design, with the fashion capitals creating an illusory backdrop.

The Verdict: Bagaholic Babe doesn't really fancy the Monogrammed Bags above and those with the fashion capitals and transparent PVC designs, and the garish colour combinations that make up the embossed monogrammed bags. However, imho, this is a much improved collection, compared to that of Vuitton's Fall/Winter 2007 Collection, and an even greater improvement compared to the blunders of the Denim Patchwork Collection from this year's Spring/Summer collection. Bagaholic Babe is absolutely crazy about the bags with sketches and caricatures on them! Very pop art indeed, something which I've always been a fan of! I also love the first bag and the Ostrich leather 'Alma' Bag - not just it's new lovely shape, but also the colour combinatiion of the Ostrich leather (which I'm also a fan of).

Well, I have to say that 2007 was probably a 'dry period' for Marc Jacob's creative juices, but thankfully he has come to his senses and rid himself of his evil twin with horrid taste. Welcome back Marc Jacobs! You've proved that within you, you still have fabulous taste! ;) *Winks*
