"Born To Be Wild" or "Out of Africa" best describes MJ's collection for S/S 09. Not only do we see LOTS of exotic prints and animal prints, but also wildly mismatched colours!! Besides that, MJ's underlying philosophies in creating this collection, in Bagaholic Babe's opinion, are contrast, textures, and colours. The key shape of the season also seems to be the messenger as well as smaller-sized shoulder slung bags.


Get ready as Marc Jacobs has unleashes the Exotic kingdom unto us, often with a few of them exploding onto just a SINGLE bag!! The key detail of his collection seems to be padlocks and tassles.





I like the this one though... love the touch of red! 

Here, he adds on to his current collection of Quilted bags, are some in messenger style, with padlock and exotic (lizard) skin detailing. A new element to the quilted range would be the ones with sequin details












The Verdict: Well, in Bagaholic Babe's opinion, MJ is trying to do too much with this collection! There really isn't a thread that binds the collection together as a WHOLE.

The quilted bags are more classic looking, whilst the ones with sequin details and rope straps may add a touch of glam and sparkle to your outfit.

The multi-flapped bags with contrasted textures and exotic skins with exotic skinned tassels all in one just prove to be too much for my liking! I mean, pony hair + lizard skin + python + suede + leather all in ONE bag?! It may be fine if it's in one colour, but all those details and textures PLUS contrasting colours and tassels all in ONE bag is just well, an eyesore. One really doesn't know where to look and what to focus on when you lay your eyes upon it because there is just TOO MUCH going on! However, one thing I do not doubt with all the exotic combinations is well.... the price tag, of course! Just using one type of exotic skin already costs a bomb... imagine the use of 3-4 AT ONCE..!

Dolce & Gabbana Miss Pocket Shoulder Bag

Today's Splurge features a leopard print patent leather shoulder bag by Dolce & Gabbana. The bag comes with grained leather trim,polished silver metal hardware and flat leather shoulder straps that come with buckles and link chain attachments. A trend with many designers, the logo nameplate is common in many designs only.. this one, you'll find, dangles from the handle of the leather strap rather than at the front of the bag. The bag top comes with magnetic closure and a securing buckled strap opening it up to an interior zipped pocket and a leather-trimmed cell phone pocket.

Definitely a storage friendly piece. However, correct me if I'm wrong, the shape's not to many young adult's liking. The link chain straps included. I think it'd be more appealing to the middle ages.

Splurge of the Week!

Fendi Fringed Zebra Baguette

This week's splurge is a very unusual zebra printed pony hair with multicolored leather fringe tied to the bag seams throughout. The bag comes with brushed gold metal hardware, 2 detachable multicolor leather shoulder straps (one long, the other shorter)and golden appliques on each side, all items logo-engraved. The baguette opens with a flap at the top and opens up to interior twist-lock closures that allow the buckles to be removed and sumptuous suede lining.

Whenever I look at the baguette, I cannot help but remember the song 'Born to be Wild'. No doubt about it, the prints say it all. Colorful fringes, zebra prints, pony hair.. definitely hard to miss in a crowd.. which I feel is a little too much. The bag contains too many elements together at the same time. Anya Hindmarch - To Stop Production of Animal Prints!

Yes, Bagfetish readers.. you got that right. As we've heard from reliable sources, the Anya Animal Print bags will cease to exist after this season. Even now, you'll find it difficult to locate that many animal prints at the Anya stores. But if you're interested in getting a hold of one before they go off completely, try asking the store assistants are there might still be quite a few left hidden in their closet. Dior Jazzclub S/S '08

If you haven't visited the Dior flagship stores of late, let me introduce you the new Jazzclub collection from their Spring/Summer collection that's simply to die for.


A collection that ties together with an engraved metal loop and toggle on every handbag, pouch and wallet, the items come in black and white leather and animal prints.





I would personally recommend the zebra print and the white leather handbag with chain straps although I must say, it can be difficult to maintain the white leather. Nonetheless, they're not to be missed together with the other Jazzclub pouches and wallets I've featured below.

Animal Print Haircalf Tote

I'm sure that by now those of you who regularly follow our Bagfetish blog will know that both BagObsessed Babe and I love Animal Prints, and just coincidentally most animal print bags are made of haircalf. So today, here's yet another Animal Print Haircalf Tote - the 'Safari City' Tote in zebra print (although not in a very zebra-esque colour) by lesser known designer, Renaud Pellegrino.



This Safari City Tote comes with removable shoulder straps. What I love about this Pellegrino tote is the unique zippered angled pockets that are parallel to the envelope-shaped top flap closure. In fact, Bagaholic Babe initially thought that the zippers were actually the fastening for the top flap. It gives that sort of illusion at first glance, don't you think? YSL Animal Print Shopper

Coincidentally, this week's bags on our Bagfetish blog seems to be an Animal Print filled one. Lol. Well, this means that firstly, Animal Prints are still very much in fashion right now, and secondly, that both BagObsessed Babe and yours truly (Bagaholic Babe) is evidently a fan of Animal Prints, innit? Lol ;)

I was wondering what it was that makes this bag so bold and striking, and I finally understood why. I don't know if you, my fellow BagAddicts noticed, but usually Animal Print bags are usually just well, in Animal Prints with just some leather trims and bits to accent the bag. This particular YSL 'Palma' Shopper (Large), however, is not a completely covered Animal Print sort. In fact, the amount of leather used is almost proportionate to the Leopard print part. As such, the leather somehow acts as a backdrop to the leopard print and balances out the whole bag, making it even more striking than your usual and more common Animal Print bag. By now, our regular readers would know that both Bagaholic Babe and BagObsessed Babe adore Animal Prints. This cute bag is from D&G's Pre-Fall Collection from their Animalier Line. I just love the uniqueness of the bag, in terms of the way its designed.
