Our weekly Splurge of the Week Mondays was put on hold when we showcased Fashion Week S/S 2009 Collections. Now that we're done with that, Splurge of the Week is back!

We all know that towards the end of the year, your social calendars will be filled with parties, especially around Christmas and New Years. This Week's Splurge is perfect for that occasion, as it not only shimmers but also has that wintery feel and vibe to it! With that, What a better way to shine and bling up your outfit than with this Judith Leiber "Humble the Penguin" Emperor penguin miniaudiere?



As with all Leiber creations, you can either hold this in your hand or strap it on your shoulder so that you can dance the night away and not worry about having to hold or lose your cute bag! It seems as if everything nowadays is inspired by culture and tradition. This week's Splurge of the Week features this Limited Edition miniaudiere by Judith Leiber. Inspired by the Indian God, Ganesh, this bejewelled Collectors' piece comes in an assortment of vibrant colours that really make the miniaudiere stand out. One of Judith Leiber's more quirky, eccentric and bolder creations that is best worn as an accessory to your LBD. YSL Satin Miniaudiere

I've never really seen a YSL Evening Clutch I've really liked - either they bear that bold YSL logo, or it's just not to my taste. However, Bagaholic Babe thinks that this one sets itself apart from most of the YSL clutches that we seem to see. This box frame Satin Miniaudiere is less 'serious' looking. In fact, true to signature YSL style and character, it's simple and chic, but it stands out from the other YSL Evening bags in terms of its playfulness.



Designed to resemble an envelope, it bears YSL's address print detail in gold on the front, complete with a postal stamp detail. In fact, minus the stamped part and that resembling an envelope, this satin miniaudiere actually reminded me of Louis Vuitton's Antigua Collection, where the LV address was first introduced on a plaque that adorns the bags. Having said that, I still think that this YSL Miniaudiere has more character =). I love this. Ooh, plus there's the added bling factor with the rhinestone twist lock closure. If you're not a Black person, this bag also comes in Red. However, Bagaholic Babe was never too much of a red fan, and it's in bright red, and looks too Film Noir Femme Fatale like for my liking..

Embellished Box Clutch

On Tuesday, we featured a Bejewelled Clutch by Lanvin. Today, in light of the Party Season, we're featuring yet another clutch, but this time, one that looks just as classy, but with a much less hefty pricetag *smiles*





With the 'Mod' vibe that this clutch/miniaudiere exudes, Bagaholic Babe just loves the way this structured box clutch looks. Bargain of the Week!

This week's Bargain of the Week is an Evening Mesh Box Clutch by Whiting & Davis. In case you all are not familiar with the brand Whiting & Davis, it's a brand usually sold in Stuart Weitzman stores. Whiting & Davis is in fact, well-known for their Mesh bags, which has become a part of their signature look.




Available in gold or gunmetal with stripes, this mesh-covered minaudiere is secured at the top with a snap closure. It comes with a detachable snake chain strap so you can either wear the bag on your wrist or on your shoulder, so it's an evening bag that you can wear in 3 different ways! We all know that box clutches are in this year, and for just $115, it's definitely a steal! Presenting: Paris Fashion Week: Chanel Spring/Summer Collection 2008

From sequin-embellished bags to hard case Evening clutches in the shape of gemstones with crystal embellishments and details, the theme "Shiny, Shiny, Shiny!!" in Bagaholic Babe's opinion, is suitable for Chanel's S/S '08 Collection.


















Whilst other designers seem to be using a bright, bold and striking colour palette for their S/S '08 collections (Fendi, Marni, Christian Lacroix, etc), Chanel seems to have opted for a more monochromatic colour scheme. Perhaps it was due to Chanel's uncharacteristic use of bright colours for their Fall/Winter 2007 Collection which resulted in this seeming reversal of seasons? It's befitting to say (in Bagaholic Babe's opinion), that Chanel's S/S '08 Collection is more suited to the F/W '07 and vice versa. Makes the brand's F/W '07 Collection seem more fun. Hm, what do YOU think?

The Verdict: Chanel has always been associated with timelessness and elegance. That may be so, but come Spring/Summer 2008, this monochromatic collection will be lost amidst the sea of flourescent colours that the other uber-designers have opted for. C'mon it's Spring! Let's welcome sunshine, rainbows and yes, that means and injection of colour!

Love It or Hate It : Tweed Mirrored Pouch

Check out this pouch from Balenciaga's Fall '07 collection. Made from tweed, the pouch comes with gold hardware, a granny purse lock and an extremely huge mirror. But why a huge mirror? In my opinion, the item is plain unpractical - especially when it doubles as a snap closure. You're bound to leave your finger prints on it, dust is bound to collect it, it's so fragile it could break if you're not careful and it isn't the best item to bring with you on a dinner date - with the spotlight shining on the mirror and it reflecting on you. Trust me, it does nothing for your skin!

The verdict: Hate it!

In conjunction with Neiman Marcus's 100th Anniversary, it has collaborated with various designer brands such as Chloe, Gucci, Valentino, Bottega Veneta, Judith Leiber and Prada. This means that these designer items (handbags in this case) are not to be found anywhere else, except Neiman Marcus, in other words, these handbags are exclusive to Neiman Marcus alone.

As such, this week will feature not one but 2 Splurge(s) of the Week - the Butterfly Celestrina Clutch by Judith Leiber and the Croc Logo Clutch by Prada

First up, the Leiber Butterfly Celestrina Clutch


Made of Pink, Lavender, Lilac and Clear Austrian Crystals, it has a cute Antennae-motif clasp. Hmm, I think this Butterfly Clutch is one of the few Judith Leiber Miniaudieres with such huge crystals. In case you haven't noticed, most Leiber clutches/miniaudieres come with small crystals set in pave style. Exclusive only to Neiman Marcus, this Butterfly Celestrina Miniaudiere is feminine, romantic and whimsical, though I'd prefer it more if the crystals were slightly smaller. And the second Splurge of the Week goes to... Prada's Croc Logo Clutch


Made of Pink Crocodile skin, this Croc Logo Clutch by Prada comes with a removal shoulder strap with bow detail. As such, you can either use it as a clutch, or sling it over your shoulder. Specially made exclusive to only Neiman Marcus stores, It comes with a croc luggage tag that reads "Prada for Neiman Marcus". Well, to Bagaholic Babe, this clutch isn't really out of the ordinary, as it looks quite common. Also, usually a sucker for all things Pink, I think the Pink croc with the gold hardware and details just look err, garish. Plus, at $8990, it's a huge price to pay for something so totally ordinary-looking. And, for that price, I'd rather fork out just a little bit more and get a Birkin. Although both are embellished with crystals in different shades of blue, these two miniaudieres are so different in terms of character! The "Spring Fling Bird" is more feminine, classy, sweet and somewhat understated, much like the Mandarin Duck miniaudiere that Mr. Big gave Carrie in Sex and the City. The "Dora", on the other hand, is more suited to someone with a quirky, funky, fun and playful personality. The Spring Fling Bird retails for $3695, and the Dora retails for $4495.
